Section Member William Sheerin Receives 2009 CCTS Technical Achievement Award

Congratulations to North Florida AACEi Section member and treasurer William C. Sheerin, CCE, for receiving the 2009 Canaveral Council of Technical Societies (CCTS) Technical Achievement Award.  This is the 2nd year in a row that a North Florida AACE Section member has won this important honor.

Presented at the recent CCTS Engineers Week Banquet at the Brevard Community College Planetarium in Cocoa, FL, this prestigious award recognizes outstanding technical accomplishments among CCTS’s 31 Space Coast area technical societies.

The award was given for Bill’s exceptional support and contributions to the field of cost engineering, especially his use and demonstration of advanced four-dimensional planning which combines three-dimensional CAD drawings with a schedule to view proposed construction on screen set against a timeline calendar.  Bill is also the recent winner of North Florida AACE’s “You’re a Star” Award.

“I appreciate being nominated by North Florida AACE, and am very grateful to CCTS for this honor,” said Bill.  After the banquet, attendees were treated to a view of the night’s sky through the Planetarium’s telescope.

North Florida AACE Section Member Susan B. Zimmerman, CCE Wins International Engineering Award (June 2009 AACEi Annual Meeting, Seattle, WA)

Susan B. Zimmerman, CCE, North Florida AACEi member and Cocoa, FL resident, has recently been awarded the 2009 Outstanding Woman in Project Controls Award by the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering, International (AACE).

The AACEi Outstanding Woman in Project Controls Award is presented annually for substantial contributions to the field of engineering and to the community, and for success in facing the challenges of being a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Currently Lead Cost Analyst of the Cost Analysis Department for EG&G Kennedy Space Center’s Construction Services Division, Susan has worked at Kennedy Space Center since the launch of the first Space Shuttle in 1981, supporting NASA in cost estimating and analysis.

Susan is Vice President-Administrative of the North Florida Section of the AACEi and was nominated by that Section for the award.  She is also co-chair of the North Florida AACE Scholarship Committee, which has benefited many students majoring in related engineering fields in local colleges and universities.

Our congratulations to Susan for this well-deserved honor.
