"You're a Star" Award

2013 Section Winner

Member Survey

While the overall assessment of our Section’s effort over the past year is positive, there is always room for improvement.  That’s why we conducted our first ever member survey, to ask for your input on how we can best improve services and benefits for our members.

 

The following results summary will give you a general idea of how responding members viewed our activities:

 

· 52% are either satisfied or extremely satisfied with overall Section performance.  38% neutral.

· 47% have attended at least one meeting or event, with 33% attending 3 or more in the past year.

· The most valued benefits and services include meeting programs/speakers, networking, resources and information, certification, and workshops/seminars.

· 82% rated meeting programs good or excellent.

· The majority wanted to continue offering a wide range of program types.

· 75% felt they had benefitted professionally from their AACEi membership.

· 79% rated Section administration and leadership either good or excellent.

· 86% rated Section communications good or excellent.

· 82% preferred continuing meeting on third Thursdays.

· 88% felt that a 6:30 p.m. meeting time was either preferred or acceptable.

· 50% preferred meeting in a central Orlando location.  36% wanted to begin rotating meeting locations around the state.

· 64% in favor of optional, inexpensive meals available at meetings, at an extra cost per person.

· 29% were interested in the cost engineering/aerospace seminars.

· 36% were interested in a possible Timberline user workshop.

· 41% had participated in Section leadership.

· 90% had either already renewed their AACEi membership or were planning to renew.

 

 

The board is generally pleased with these results, and feels we’ve made good progress in re-energizing our Section activities and involving as many members as possible in the large geographic area we serve.

If you know of a member who has made noteworthy contributions to the Section, please send his/her name and the reason your nominee deserves this special recognition to staraward@nflaace.org.  The award will be presented at the 2015 December Holiday Dinner Meeting.

This year’s Star Award recipient, Del L. Younker, CCP, has been an AACEi member for over 33 years, and has previously served in several leadership roles including Section president for multiple terms.  He also organized monthly Section meetings and annual workshops, provided certification training and supervised exams, and assisted in joint meetings with several nearby universities.  He has recently been elected to serve on the current Section board as a board director.  Among his latest contributions to the Section have been as a valuable source of professional employment opportunities referred to us and listed on our Web site to benefit our members.

 

Del has also contributed significantly to AACE International as a whole, thus positively impacting all Sections.  He has served as AACEi Certification Board Chair, developing new testing methods, grading, and monitoring certification board activities.  He was a key contributor to the AACEi TCM Framework, and is author of the book Value Engineering Analysis and Methodology, published in 2003.  This important resource sold worldwide, is held by 190 libraries, and is required reading in cost engineering courses at the University of Florida M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction.

In his substantial professional career, Del has conducted over 400 Value Engineering/Analysis study teams to provide improved value for clients.  He has also provided instruction with current SAVE International approved Module I and II courses, and is a National Value Improvement Award Recipient.  He is a SAVE International and AACE International approved instructor for Value Engineering Modules I and 2 for learning and practicing Value Engineering.  He has also taught professionals in the project controls, estimating, scheduling, and project management field to prepare and successfully pass AACE/SAVE examinations.  He is currently employed at NBC Universal in Orlando as their Project 722 Master Scheduler Project Controls Specialist.

We have benefitted greatly from Del’s dedication and leadership, plus his valuable and timely assistance to our programs and activities.  His outstanding participation and enthusiasm are always welcome at our meetings and have certainly made a positive difference for our Section.

We thank Del for his honorable service, and congratulate him on winning this prestigious Section award.

The annual North Florida AACEi “You’re a Star” Award goes to a member who has made significant and outstanding contributions that have made a positive difference to the programs and activities of the Section.  Previous winners include Joseph A.
