Technical Program:  Steinmetz Symphony Hall Site Tour
We are delighted to be able to tour the Steinmetz Symphony Hall construction site in downtown Orlando on Thursday, March 12, 2020.  This is an exciting project with crews working 24 hours a day, anticipating completion later this summer.  This is the final phase of the downtown Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, adjacent to the Walt Disney Theater and the Pugh Theater, and will be the future home of the Orlando Philharmonic, Orlando Ballet, and Opera Orlando as well as other arts organizations and events.  Steinmetz Hall is designed for performances that do not use an electronic sound system – orchestral music and other non-amplified performances – and the acoustic balancing design has been described as seeking “the most acoustically perfect in the world” with an array of technological innovations.  The venue will be capable of transforming from a 1,700-seat concert hall to a 1,500-seat traditional theater, depending on the type of show being offered.

Speaker:  Allan Gladstone, Whiting-Turner Construction Project Manager
We will meet at 5:15 pm at the Whiting-Turner offices (2-story building behind the Dr. Phillips Center complex) at 401 S. Rosalind Ave., Orlando.  If you have a hard hat and safety glasses, please bring them.  Otherwise, they will be provided.  Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes.  We will start the tour no later than 5:30 and expect to be finished by 6:30.  You will need to find parking since the Whiting Turner lot is only usable from 6 am to 6 pm. After 6pm, it turns into a city parking lot and you will need to pay at the meter.
Once our tour is complete, you may join us as we walk about 3 blocks to Wahlburgers Restaurant at the Sun Trust Center, 200 S. Orange Ave. (corner of Church Street and S.Orange Ave.) for dinner.  This is described as a “celebrity-owned restaurant with a fun, casual, music-filled atmosphere,” known for its burgers, salads, and mac-n-cheese.
RSVPs for the site tour must be received on or before 5pm on Wednesday, 11-March 2020.  Your friends and colleagues are always welcome; membership in AACE is not required.  Bring your acoustically-minded musical friends!

DINNER MENU:
Dinners at Wahlburgers Restaurant will be paid for individually.
